Buehler's Fresh Foods fights food waste with app

A regional Ohio grocer is partnering with a mobile app to help ensure surplus food items wind up in customer shopping carts rather than landfills.

Buehler's Fresh Foods is deploying the the Flashfood app to all of its 14 stores in Northeast Ohio. Through the Flashfood app, shoppers can find fresh produce, meat, dairy, bakery items, prepared foods, and other food products at significant discounts, with the goals of helping customers save on groceries while keeping edible food out of landfills.

In partnership with Flashfood, Buehler's will offer surplus food from its stores at a discount through the Flashfood app. In 2026 alone, Flashfood says shoppers in the Northeast Ohio region have saved $2.4 million on their groceries and diverted more than 1 million pounds of food from landfill.s
