Vietnam's younger drinkers are driving wine forward

As Vietnam's luxury hospitality scene develops, a new crop of younger drinkers are embracing wine and driving promising market trends. Rebecca Lo reports.

The economic challenges faced by Asian wine markets such as China have shifted focus in recent years to developing alternatives such as Vietnam.

Though sitting at less than one percent consumption in comparison to other alcoholic beverages, db reported that taste for wine is slowly changing. Its evolution is partly due to on-trade venues upping their game.

"Consumers enjoy being immersed in storytelling, provenance and memorable experiences," observed Vietnam-based Emilie Slater, Symington Family Estates' Asia Pacific ambassador.

"Fine dining institutions such as Maison 1888 play a vital role in delivering exactly that. Restaurants of its calibre provide guests with access to world-class wine programmes, expert service and carefully curated pairings that elevate the overall dining experience. They also act as important educational platforms, introducing consumers to new regions, producers and styles of wine in an engaging and approachable way."
