That's one of the questions being answered at next week's db conference, where Liv-ex head of decision intelligence, Tom Burchfield, will look at why now is a prime time for buying - albeit, with a caveat.
In an interview with db on Friday (which you can watch below), ahead of his opening address at the event on Wednesday 23 September in London's British Library, Burchfield considered the issue of fine wine pricing on the secondary market - which Liv-ex tracks independently by collecting real transactional data from professional merchants.
Having commented that now may be the best time to buy fine wine in a decade, he drew on Liv-ex information to suggest that pricing is back to 2015 levels in real terms, before stressing that it's not a blanket signal to buy - some wines are troughing and rising, others still falling.
"The fine wine 1000, which is our broadest measure of the market [tracking 1,000 wines from across the world], in real terms, is back to 2015 levels... which does mean that, if you are a canny buyer and picking cleverly, you are able to pick up wines at the cheapest they've been in a decade," he told db.
