DoorDash says shoppers using its artificial intelligence tools are building larger grocery baskets, buying a wider variety of products and completing orders significantly faster than customers shopping without AI.
Andy Fang, co-founder of DoorDash, said on Wednesday at Groceryshop in Las Vegas the company has seen those trends accelerate since launching Ask DoorDash, its AI-powered shopping assistant, in June.
When the service launched, DoorDash reported grocery baskets created with the tool were about 35% larger and customers checked out about three times faster. Fang said those numbers have since climbed.
"Now we're seeing 50% higher grocery basket sizes versus non-AI orders," Fang said. "And people are checking out five times faster using AI than without AI."
Ask DoorDash allows shoppers to use conversational prompts to build orders rather than searching for individual products. Customers can also take a photo of a recipe list and have the service generate a cart.
