Gartner believes warehouse operations have reached an inflection point in AI adoption, as labor constraints make automation non-negotiable, capital models are shifting toward lower-risk entry points, and AI and autonomy technologies are reaching operational maturity.
In a recent report, Gartner has identified four globally disruptive AI trends poised to transform warehousing. These include enhanced, optimization-oriented traditional AI; operationally driven generative AI; suggestive and semiautonomous agents; and physical AI agents.
"These four AI trends are interconnected and reflect the evolution of a more intelligent, adaptive and resilient warehouse environment," said Federica Stufano, senior principal analyst in Gartner's supply chain practice.
For warehouse operations to achieve future success with AI, they will need to balance "action and orientation" and "intelligence sophistication" across all four categories.
