'AI is going to transform grocery more than any other tech'

Instacart CEO Chris Rogers opened Groceryshop 2026 in Las Vegas on Tuesday without holding back. When discussing what impact he thought AI would have on the consumer experience in grocery, he did not hesitate.

"I believe that AI is going to transform grocery more than any other technology shift to date," he said. "And I also think that grocery is going to be the category out of every retail category that's most transformed by AI. That's my belief."

Rogers said every household today is balancing several components: their own preferences, dietary needs, price, brand, what they already have in inventory at home, what's available in their store, promotions that are available, and what everyone in their family will eat for dinner. It's creating a stressful daily experience.

"Up until now ... we're really just giving the app to the consumer and they're doing all the work," Rogers said.
