Slideshow: Pumpkin spice still powering fall menu innovation

KANSAS CITY — The demand for fall seasonal introductions continues to rise, fueled by the ever-popular pumpkin spice flavor.

The global pumpkin spice products market was estimated to reach $1.25 billion last year, with a compound annual growth rate of approximately 9% from 2025 to 2035, according to data from market researcher Future Market Insights (FMI). The researcher attributed much of the market's growth to North American sales, noting the "strong consumer culture for fall foods and drinks."

"Chains such as Starbucks, McDonald's and Trader Joe's just continue to add pumpkin spice items, taking advantage of overconsumption by consumers of the traditional seasonally released same items," said Nandini Roy Choudhury, principal consultant for FMI. "Apart from that, innovation toward healthier and plant-based pumpkin spice products is increasing, reaching increasingly more consumers."

The introduction of the Starbucks Corp.'s fall menu marked the "strongest fall launch day" across the United States and Canada in the company's history, Starbucks said.
